Pay Per Post

Blogging has expenses, but I personally don’t enjoy having ads all over the place on my blog. The concept of a company paying bloggers to hype a product is interesting, though.

In most cases, the requirement is a neutral post, that gets people to start talking about the product, service, or entertainment. It’s a sort of “buzz producer”.
Let me know what you think of their pitch. I kinda like it.

Finally Moved

for the most part, anyway…
We’ve moved most of our stuff into the house, and we’ve got boxes everywhere.  The only rooms that look close to done are the kitchen (gotta have access to the food), bathroom (that too), and of course, my office.
It took us a few hours just to get my desk into the house, but it was worth it, because it looks great in my office.  I’m glad we moved most of the stuff on Friday, because Saturday was a horrible day for moving.  I haven’t seen rain that hard since Rita.  I did get the lawn mowed before the rain came down too hard, though.
I’m looking forward to being able to work closer to home because the drive to and from work everyday would eventually get to me.  I’m going to the new location in Beaumont on Wednesday, and from what I understand, they have some work backed up for me, so I could be there consistently for a short period of time.
I went jogging tonight because I haven’t been in over two weeks.  The track here is cool because it is more round than elongated, so it seems like the track is shorter, even though it apparently is not.  It looks like they wanted more sidline space between the field and the track so they just widened it to make the arcs longer and the straight parts shorter.
I had the misfortune of talking about politics at work today.  Just yesterday, Christle and I were talking about the definition of prudence (discretion in practical affairs, or knowing when to keep your mouth shut to avoid embarrassment or distress).  Take the advice I did not use, and just keep politics and religious talk out of the workplace.  Doing so will make life so much less stressful.  I guess there is room for bending that rule, but it should only be when asked outright for advice, or if you’ve known the person (or people) for more than 5 to 10 years.
The conversation ended smoothly, and I don’t think any feelings were hurt, but it was just one of the most awkward conversations I’ve ever had at work.  I think I’ll remember to just make my way out of those conversations from now on.

I Love This Comeback…

I can’t verify the validity or truth to this story, but I like the story anyway. I received it in an email from my Aunt today.

One of my sons serves in the military. He is still stateside, here in California. He called me yesterday to let me know how warm and welcoming people were to him, and his troops, everywhere he goes, telling me how people shake their hands, and thank them for being willing to serve, and fight, for not only our own freedoms but so that others may have them also.
But he also told me about an incident in the grocery store he stopped at yesterday, on his way home from the base. He said that ahead of several people in front of him stood a woman dressed in a burkha. He said when she got to the cashier she loudly remarked about the U.S. flag lapel pin the cashier wore on her smock. The cashier reached up and touched the pin, and said proudly,” Yes, I always wear it and probably always will.”
The woman in the burkha then asked the cashier when she was going to stop bombing her countrymen, explaining that she was Iraqi. A gentleman standing behind my son stepped forward, putting his arm around my son’s shoulders, and nodding towards my son, said in a calm and gentle voice to the Iraqi woman:
“Lady, thousands of men and women like this young man have fought and died so that YOU could stand here, in MY country and accuse a check-out cashier of bombing YOUR countrymen. It is my belief that had you been this outspoken in YOUR own country, we wouldn’t need to be there today. But, hey, if you have now learned how to speak out so loudly and clearly, I’ll gladly buy you a ticket and pay your way back to Iraq so you can straighten out the mess in YOUR country that you are obviously here in MY country to avoid.”
Everyone within hearing distance cheered!
IF YOU AGREE____Pass this on to all your proud American friends. I just did.

I agree wholeheartedly. Do you?

Tagworld.com

I’ve recently heard about tagworld.  Well, actually when I was looking up how to customize MySpace.com, I saw a link to “the alternative to MySpace”.
You can find my profile at www.tagworld.com/bkunefke.
My first impression is “WOW!”  I thought I was dreaming when I finished setting up my profile, and was surprised that I was not inundated with ads on my profile.  I’m sure there will be a few ads here and there, but I was not overcome by them.
The interface is more smooth and visually attractive.
I’ll play with the two, and I will have to decide which one to keep using more often.  Right now, I’m close to choosing tagworld, but I really haven’t had more than a week’s experience using either.  I think I’ll give them each a month, and see what I think of them then.

State of the Union

The State of the Union is fantastic.  President Bush hit it on the head.
The Democrats thought they were being smart to clap and cheer when he said that Congress didn’t follow his lead to make reforms to Social Security, but the President showed how stupid they were by saying that Social Security is worse now than it was last year due to their refusal to change the Social Security Policy last year.  They stupidly cheered him on after he showed the country that the Democrats were to blame for it.
The more often they show their complete opposition to anything President Bush puts forward, the more regular private citizens of America will come to the realization that all the “mainstream” Democrats want to do is to oppose President Bush, no matter what he’s proposing.  They have let their hatred for him, rooted in their loss of power, cloud their judgement on many issues, including their own scruples.
I have to admit, there are some democrats that showed some solid character by standing up by themselves in approval for at least some of President Bush’s vision.  The’ll probably get a good bashing from their usual cohorts, and I hope they do.  I also hope that the heat they feel will encourage them to stand for principles instead of their party.
Wonderful speech, Mr. President.  Thanks for serving our country, and may God Bless You.
